Busy

Pretty busy at the moment, with little time to look at the net, nevermind update this blog.

However, apparently one blog is created every second, so check out this article, and in famous Arnie style, I'll be back...!

Happy Birthday Mr C !

In the best spirit of this blog, here I am replicating an idea already used :) Checkout Phut's first please !

The light at the top I believe is actually a very bright Miller advert. Here he is, in glorious Phone-Cam-Vision:

Still alive, just!

And relax...

Yes, its the first evening I'm able to relax in about 2 weeks. Last week was pretty busy, then we all worked the weekend (15hrs Sat, 15hrs Sun) and then this week has just been insane.

As some people know, I'm working with 3 other techs on a network separation project, for a new company created as a division divestiture from a large uk organisation. My company is the IT outsource for the large organisation, and I'm part of the team running the new companies I.T.

Old systems, NT4 svrs, win98, winNT4, winXP clients, new systems are Win2k3 severs, clients stay the same for now. No automatic migration. New userIDs, new internet pipe, new email. Data transfer and repermissioning required. (Blame the legal people for refusing access to the old userlist etc).

As you can tell, its a big of a marathon. We're all exhaused, and I know some of my colleagues are still there doing permissioning. Sorry guys (and gals) I should be helping. I'm at home because I had to go to one of the big companies sites to get some data, and my office provided laptop is currently locked in a data centre copying files.

Lever, you've kept me entertained with your comments, but see the truth is even more geeky. All I'm hoping is I will get some financial recompense from all these hours, its looking good though. But I'm without a laptop so cannot do my "hours and rates" form this weekend. Oh well?!

LOL!

Narked is not the word.

So I've been stupidly busy being the "buck stops here" technical resource for the last few weeks. One of the issues has been a really annoying technical problem that I've been trying to solve for 2.5 weeks. However I had a 'first instinct' idea that I put to management, but they would not let me try that.

So tonight, 2.5wks later, I've found some real, potential evidence that the issue we are facing (and causing real pain to approx 1000 users) could have been fixed by that 'first instinct'.

That really makes me want to ?$£%£%$£%£$%£%. What is the point of experience and promotion, if nobody listens to you?

Anyway, I now have some documentation, and an idea, which I can present to management first thing Tuesday. (Monday being a bank holiday). I just hope the systems don't crash over the long weekend.

How long did it take to find? About 1hr of uninterrupted Google and other net resources and being focused on the issue. Which unfortunately is impossible at the current time in the office. C'est la vie as they say.

Looks like they Got 'em !

That's nice and quick:

Just vandals. Not "clever kids" or anything that the non technical 'adults' like to tag them with. They're simple hooligans.

The companies that were hit though need to "get with the programme", as most home computer users were protected. Hmm!!
