September 2005 Archives

Its September?

Oh, ok, so the summer ended last night did it with that Thunderstorm? Was a "little" interesting driving home (M3) in it, blacker than night, with lots of water!

Anyway, still working stupid hours, but occasionally posting :)

This is a little interesting, wonder how Apple will react!

Crap delivery firms and a GPS device

I'm not impressed with Amtrak deliveries of apparently Farnham. They have tried twice now to deliver something I've ordered off the web, and failed. No shit sherlock! I work during the day :) However their 'calling card' tells me that if I don't collect the item on the 3rd day from their depot, they will return it, and I will be liable for the delivery fee.

Now why don't companies use the good old Royal Mail who would think of leaving it either with a neighbour or having a very local place where I could collect it from either early/late on on a Saturday. Hmm. Guess I'll avoid doing business with that website again.

I also treated myself to a TomTom GO GPS navigation device last weekend, and it works really well. Well worth the money.

Oh, and on topic I posted about before, it looks like my hypothesis was right as we were able to implement the test last night, and we've not had the error now for 24hrs. Still monitoring over the weekend, and if its fine by Mon, we'll have to roll out the fix to all the boxes. If they'd listened to me, we could have done it 3 weeks ago ;-)

Hey Lever...

Wassup with the blogger only comments :( :( I guess blog-spam has become a real problem then ? :-(

I do like the "pizza wars" comment though :)

Price of fuel

Yes, so its getting silly again, who wasn't expecting that!?!

Anyway, just for any of my US readers out there, I am now paying 94.9 pence per litre of unleaded petrol (97 RON).

There are apparently 3.79 litres in a US gallon, so in US terms, we are paying $6.59 per US-gallon.

Most of that is UK specific tax though, as the rest of the EU isn't quite that high. (but we also pay our "road fund licence", approx £150 a year ($276).

I suspect it will go over the £1/litre in the next week or so... ouch.

Take me home, Country Roads

Ok, ok, so I'm going slightly mad. (Many would say I'm there already).

I've just spent the last week or so in the USA, in New England. Yes, its very nice, lots of old builings, but I think I prefer the modern concrete block. For one reason. Lights. Yes, too much light into my room at night. Grr.

Anyway, the title, I'm currently JetLagged on a Saturday night, at home, here in Farnboro-ugh, having drunk 3 pints of Kronenbourg at the pub in Fleet with some very good mates, and now at home, having drunk 3 cans of Carlsberg Export, but still _wide awake_. That's not good.

Worse, I'm humming John Denver.

Pictures, you want pictures? Try this.

I've got *what*?

No, that's not an incurable disease, the scary word was "staff"!

Its not staff as in management, more staff as in team leadership, an d workload distribution. So, as of Monday, I'm part of the so called management problem!

I thinkg I'm taking Sunday to plan, and organise some notes I have and try and kick this beast into some sort of order, before it kicks me into an early grave.

Anyway, Pete, hope you had a good birthday and tonight was good, and don't have too bad an Oct!!
