December 2006 Archives

December 1, 2006

Good grief...

Yes, its the 1st of December, and this morning in a half hour timeslot I heard no less than 3 (and the start of) repetitions of Wham's Last Christmas. Now I used to quite like that song, but working in a shop during Christmas with a tape on repeat really drives it out of you :)

However hearing it 3 times (twice on one station, once on another) in 30 mins is not just stupid, its really stupid. Average commute time is 50 minutes, so is the station trying to lose listeners?

Anyway, have a good weekend all, and I'll try and blog more from this coming week.

Feedback, or time to moan?!

Ok, so as we are matrix managed we have to provide feedback on people we work with. This feedback goes to our line manager, who is normally somebody we don't work for. (see link).

However its very hard to be balanced, especially when you're working with people who often don't pull their weight, preferring to surf the net instead. I think I've achieved it, but why does it take so long.

We're not supposed to do this stuff on weekends, but since it takes me such a long time to put thoughts down, I have to. Technical people shouldn't be asked to be HR types :)

So where do you want to go today?

(Yes, I'm well aware its a trademark).

I happen to think that is an excellent question. As I've now been to Oz (once) and various parts of the US. where do I want to go? I think the items I'd like to cross off, go back to approx 18 months ago and perhaps extend.

I really want to visit Canada, as I've heard some interesting things from colleagues, such as "it freaks out the europeans the distance" being one. Cool :) Perhaps travel the Trans-Canada-Highway, if that's possible.

Who's interested?!

Where to go!?

Wendy Grossman blogged this a few months ago, but where do we go?

If the US is considering ID cards, along with the Blairite insanity, where does it end? If those aged 60 and 70 are also talking about emigrating, where does that leave the rest of us?

Hang on, isn't that like saying we are the rats, leaving the sinking ship. Yep, they're welcome to it. Career politicians, with absolutely no clue.

Brown's over doubled the paperwork for the tax system. Is that a good thing? IMNSHO No.

In World Gone Mad quote, the UKs major airports were sold to Spain in the summer.

Hee Hee

If a man says something in the woods and there's no woman there to hear it does he realise she still knows he is still wrong?

Top 500 - again

So, the radio stations are asking for our all-time-top 500 records. Luckily this one is on a station that is less mainstream, and with the collapse of chart music in the last 10years, it might be quite interesting. They've been playing people's votes this week, and most have been really good. So I thought I'd vote. Turns out this is pretty d**n difficult.

To get some ideas, I sorted my iTunes collection by most played. I have apparently 3399 songs, which would take 10 days to play consecutively ! The most played was interesting, but not the "all time best" that I could think of right now.

So I just surfed down the list, until I found the first three I could write up, these were:
* Dire Straits - Telegraph Road
* Clannad & Bono - In a lifetime
* Eurythmics - You have placed a chill in my heart

Yes, there are artists I've missed, such as Fleetwood Mac, Genesis, Keane, Kirsty MacColl, The Magic Numbers, Meat Loaf, Nerina Pallot, Peter Gabriel, Prefab Sprout, Queen, Razorlight, Snow Patrol, Steve Winwood, Texas and U2.... however I've only got 3 votes :(

Please let me know your thoughts. Or vote on the radio website :)
