So, some new toys have appeared (e.g. the slynkycat camera) and so I thought I'd post some pics of my project. Click the icons for larger versions:

and it actually works! Running System 6.0.4 !

I've managed to create some floppy disks of the OS and the two applications, and I'm currently attempting to order some real OS 6.0.8 and 7.5 software on the special 800k disks. I've got some memory modules and an RS232 cable on order too, and maybe (fingers crossed) some sort of Ethernet adaptor.

Maybe I'll be able to get my email on this machine in the next few months. Not bad for a machine 21 years old :-)

Of course the other end of the room, I have a 4yr+ old PC, and a nice new Vista machine, currently running a trial of Vista 64bit. Hey ho.

The Mac is now part of my home computer environment / lab....

As you can see, there is my primary machine on the left end, running XP, with the new high performance machine in the middle, and the Mac Plus to the right. To the right of the Mac is my surround sound speaker, and on the floor underneath is my old server.

However the Mac only has 1meg of RAM, and as I have the 30meg hard drive attached, I am trying to locate some 1meg 30pin SIMMs that would work, apparently 150ns and not EDO, and apparently the original 8 chip, not 2 chip version.

Yes, I've been working far too much this week (53hrs on time sheet, for customer) but more than that actually worked due to 'internal overheads'. It sucks working on a customer site when you're not in charge of your own time.

Anyway, at least I had the verbal complement "you're worth your weight in gold" for thinking quickly and suggesting a possible solution that amazingly worked, to a colleague stuck on his own in Rome on a Saturday.

Had a good lunch with mates in Fleet, and we sat in the garden, but typically I find when I get home that I've "caught the sun". In APRIL for crying out loud...

The Mac project continues, I had confirmation this morning that my accessories have shipped, so in the next few weeks I'll be trying some new stuff. My serial cable arrived yesterday, so it may no longer be an island soon.

So, I've just booked a trip to the states, visiting a mate who is now in New Mexico. It sounds an empty but fascinating state, so it should be a different sort of trip. However its been a while since I did a long haul flight on my own, so I'd better stock up the iPod :-)
